Born and raised in Augusta, Georgia, Shivani Gupta, MD, attended Tulane University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Her passion for understanding the intricacies of the human body led her to Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, where she completed her medical degree. She continued with an Internal Medicine residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical Center, followed by a Gastroenterology fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.

Driven by an early fascination with the sciences, Dr. Gupta’s journey into medicine was marked by an unwavering commitment to studying human anatomy and physiology. Her particular interest in the intricate interactions within organ systems flourished during her intensive training. This fascination culminated in her specialization in gastroenterology, where she was able to perform hands-on procedures like upper endoscopies and colonoscopies. Extending her dedication to patient care, Dr. Gupta focuses on clear communication and tailored treatments. Through this approach, she empowers patients to actively participate in their health decisions. Dr. Gupta aims to build a reputation as a compassionate and approachable healthcare provider, underpinned by her expertise and genuine concern for patients’ well-being.

As a dedicated gastroenterologist, Dr. Gupta’s clinical expertise spans a broad spectrum of gastrointestinal ailments. While she excels as a generalist, her specialized knowledge shines particularly in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and gastrointestinal issues during pregnancy. Her emphasis on shared decision-making characterizes Dr. Gupta’s holistic approach to patient care. “I try to point patients in the direction of what I believe will serve them best based upon the science and research, but I want patients to feel comfortable telling me what will and will not work for them,” she states. Outside her medical practice, Dr. Gupta enjoys exploring local cuisine and seeking the best coffee spots. A nature enthusiast, she frequently embarks on scenic walks and is excited to venture into hiking. She also enjoys regular yoga practice as it helps focus and ground her mind.
