CORVALLIS — Karisa Boyce and Abigail Collins are the winners of The Corvallis Clinic Foundation’s James R. Naibert, M.D., Scholarship awards. Each will receive $1000 to pursue their goals of earning a healthcare-related college degree.
Boyce, of Corvallis, is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy at Oregon State University, while dual enrolled at Linn-Benton Comunity College. Her goal is to pursue a doctorate in physical therapy at Pacific University. A licensed massage therapist, Boyce is the owner of Live By Massage in Corvallis. She graduated from South Albany High School in 2005.
Collins, of Philomath, is majoring in BioHealth Sciences with an option in Pre-Pharmacy at Oregon State University. She wants to become a pharmacist, with a specialty in geriatrics. The 2013 graduate of Philomath High School went on a medical mission trip to Kenya with Open Arms International. She currently works as a caregiver for Helping Hands.
The scholarship, named in honor of Dr. James R. Naibert, provides up to $2,000 to area students who demonstrate an interest in working in a health-related profession that involves direct patient care, such as a physician, nurse, imaging technician, or pharmacist.
To be eligible, applicants must have a college sophomore standing or above and either have graduated from a high school in Linn or Benton county or have lived in the mid-valley for at least three years while working in a healthcare field with direct patient care. A 3.25 post-secondary grade point average is preferred.
Dr. Naibert is a retired family medicine physician who worked at The Corvallis Clinic at Wavely Drive in Albany. His patients chose to recognize his efforts by establishing the scholarship for area students. He also practiced at The Clinic’s Immediate Care Center.
The Corvallis Clinic Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide resources in the mid-Willamette Valley that support health education, preventive health care, and the delivery of health care to at-risk populations.
