THE CORVALLIS CLINIC ACHIEVES GRADUATE STATUS IN OSHA’S SHARP PROGRAM
CORVALLIS — The Clinic has earned the designation as a graduate of SHARP, OSHA’s Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program. Employers are awarded graduate status when they have received the SHARP (Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program) recognition from Oregon OSHA for five years.
The Clinic is one of four health-care related facilities in the state to have achieved this status.
“The Corvallis Clinic is a great example of how a SHARP company runs,” said Chris Hernandez, Occupational Safety Consultant with Oregon OSHA. “You have support from every level, from the CEO to the employee working the floor. The people working at The Clinic look out for each other and their patients.”
SHARP employers must be committed to developing and implementing a written Safety and Health Program that involves employees in significant ways to affect employee safety and health.
A major accomplishment for The Clinic has been the reduction in recordable injuries and the numbers of lost days. “In 2013 we ended the year without any lost days,” said Diana Hendrickson, Director of The Clinic’s Occupational Medicine Department. “That is a goal every employer strives for.”
SHARP was developed to provide Oregon employers with coaching and direction so that they could learn to more effectively manage workplace safety and health, and in turn, be recognized for their achievement. After a company qualifies for its second year as a SHARP participant, that company may be exempt from Oregon OSHA’s programmed or scheduled inspections.
The Corvallis Clinic, an independent, physician-led medical group, is a comprehensive multi-specialty organization, serving Benton, Linn and Lincoln counties. It offers more than 100 board-certified providers and advanced professionals in 27 specialties at seven area locations. As the fifth-largest area employer, The Clinic has 600 employees.
