CORVALLIS, Ore. — The Corvallis Clinic and Willamette Valley Cancer Institute and Research Center (WVCI) have partnered to provide more options for cancer patients in Benton, Linn and Lincoln counties. To make an appointment, call 541-754-1256.
Eugene-based WVCI is offering oncology treatment services at The Clinic’s Aumann Building at 444 NW Elks Drive in Corvallis. WVCI oncologist Keith Wells, M.D., sees patients in an area of the Aumann building that was remodeled in 2014 to accommodate medical oncology services and infusion therapy.
Dr. Wells, who lives in Corvallis with his family, served as chief fellow at the University of Colorado-Denver Medical School. Trained as a medical oncologist and hematologist, Dr. Wells has a special interest in clinical trials. “My family and I are excited to be living in Corvallis and getting to know the people and the community,” says Dr. Wells. “I’m glad to be offering care that is centered on the patient, alongside the top-notch providers at WVCI and The Clinic.”
Most WVCI staff will reside in the three-county area as well. Also, at times other WCVI oncologists will provide care at The Clinic location.
“Having WVCI lease space at The Clinic provides choices for cancer patients right in the community and allows primary care and cancer care physicians to more easily collaborate on behalf of their patients.” said Lance McQuillan, M.D., The Clinic’s chief medical officer.
“We have first-rate physicians, treatment and technology that rival that of large cities,” said WVCI Executive Director Chris Achtien. “We bring that caliber of care to cancer patients in the Corvallis community, so that they don’t have to travel far to receive the therapy they need for the best possible outcome.”
Dr. McQuillan said The Clinic considered potential partners throughout the Northwest. “We decided that WVCI was the best partner for our patients. Its headquarters are only a 45-minute drive from Corvallis, and it is affiliated with The US Oncology Network with its 1400 oncologists and 400 community-based cancer clinics throughout the nation.”
Through its partnership with the US Oncology Network, WVCI provides many investigational drugs through clinical trials, so that patients have access to experimental treatments otherwise unavailable. An updated list of available clinical trials can be found on its website, www.oregoncancer.com.
WVCI is also a participant in the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Oncology Care Model (OCM), which aims to provide higher quality, more highly coordinated oncology care at the same or lower cost to Medicare. WVCI and other practices participating in the OCM are committed to providing enhanced services to Medicare beneficiaries, such as patient navigation and developing national treatment guidelines for care to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of cancer care.
