CORVALLIS — According to the Parkinson’s Foundation’s Parkinson’s Outcomes Project, physical activity can help slow the decline in quality of life for people living with Parkinson’s, no matter the disease stage. The Corvallis Clinic’s Physical Therapy Department currently has five providers certified in an intensive exercise approach for Parkinson’s patients called LSVT BIG.
Developed from principles of the effective Parkinson’s-specific speech treatment LSVT Loud, the LSVT BIG method is designed to accommodate all stages of Parkinson’s. In 16 sessions over one month – four individual 60-minute sessions per week – our LSVT BIG-certified physical therapists teach people to use BIG movements in everyday living. This research-based exercise protocol has been found to improve balance, increase trunk rotation, and enable faster walking with bigger steps.
If you are living with Parkinson’s, ask your doctor if LSVT BIG intensive therapy could benefit you. To learn more or to schedule an appointment, call The Clinic’s Physical Therapy Department at 541-754-1265.
