PINK, ORANGE AND ROYALTY PARTNER FOR PINK OUT
CORVALLIS - Miss Oregon Teen USA Alexandra Perry and Miss Oregon USA Emma Pelett will make a special appearance at the seventh annual Pink Out Breakfast and Silent Auction on Saturday, Feb. 1. The event is hosted by Oregon State’s gymnastics program and all of its proceeds will be donated to The Corvallis Clinic Foundation’s Project H.E.R. (Help. Enlightenment. Resources.).
The Pink Out Breakfast and Silent Auction is presented by the Gymnastics’ booster club, the 10.0 Club, in the Club Level of Reser Stadium. Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m., and the silent auction and breakfast will start at 10 a.m. It is an opportunity to meet the gymnasts along with Miss Perry and Miss Pelett. Register here.
Miss Perry is one of The Corvallis Clinic Foundation’s Health Care Heroes. Miss Perry started Cook for Cancer, a program of the Foundation that provides dinners for oncology patients and their families as they are undergoing cancer treatments. Perry’s mom is a breast-cancer survivor and so she created the program as a way to give back to cancer patients.
Saturday’s event starts a week of “pink” activities for OSU Athletics. The gymnastics team hosts Stanford on Monday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m., and the women’s basketball team takes on Colorado on Friday, Feb. 7 at 8 p.m. for their annual Dam Cancer events. Both events are at Gill Colisuem. Miss Perry will be present at the gymnastics event for a meet and greet starting at 6 p.m.
Project H.E.R. is a comprehensive breast-health services program available to women in Benton, Linn and Lincoln counties through The Corvallis Clinic Foundation. The program provides awareness, education and support for all women, from the time of a breast-cancer diagnosis through survivorship. Last year, Project H.E.R. served more than 250 women in the community.
Project H.E.R. services are acutely important because of the prevalence of the disease in the Pacific Northwest. Oregon and Washington have some of the highest breast-cancer rates in the country, according to the Susan G. Komen For the Cure. On average, 50 women are diagnosed each week in Oregon.
Serving patients free of charge, the Project H.E.R. team consists of a nurse navigator, a clinical social worker, and many volunteers who are breast-cancer survivors and uniquely qualified to offer insight to newly diagnosed breast-cancer patients. Project H.E.R. mentors help women find the right medical service providers, maneuver through the appropriate channels and get the latest information.
