“I personally find a lot of joy in helping people incorporate well-being into their lives.”
Language(s) - English, Mandarin
Dane Yu, DNP, FNP-C, was born in Taiwan and immigrated to the United States with her family at a young age, growing up in Canby, Oregon. After completing her undergraduate degree in Nursing at Linfield University, she pursued a Doctorate of Nursing Practice with a focus on Family Practice at the University of Portland. Before becoming a nurse practitioner, she worked as a home health nurse for five years, gaining valuable insights into the diverse needs of patients.
Dane’s journey into healthcare was motivated by her own health challenges as a child and her family’s experience. She reflects, “Growing up with parents from another culture, it was difficult at times for them to trust Western medicine. But there were some providers, specialists, and nurses that were able to connect with them so well, explain things clearly, listen to their concerns, and gain their trust, that really inspired me to pursue healthcare as a field.”
Her enduring interest in preventative care, health maintenance, and public health has guided her professionally. As a family nurse practitioner, Dane is passionate about adolescent and adult care, reproductive health, and family planning. Her dedication to translating research into practice reflects her commitment to staying at the forefront of healthcare advancements.
In her approach to patient care, Dane Yu sees herself as a guide and supporter, stating, “I love educating people on healthcare decisions, habits, diseases, and treatments so that they can make the best decision for them, and that’s going to look different for every patient.” Patients can expect Dane to be a good listener who is gentle and forthright, ensuring they are active participants in their healthcare decisions. Her ultimate goal is to establish trusting, long-term relationships with patients based on mutual respect and understanding.
One of Dane’s most rewarding patient interactions involved bridging a knowledge gap for a patient, enabling them to take control of their health. This experience reinforced her belief in listening closely to patients’ needs and providing personalized care.
Beyond her work in healthcare, Dane enjoys exploring the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest and engaging in outdoor activities such as hiking and paddleboarding. She is also a food enthusiast who relishes discovering new culinary experiences and cooking at home. Additionally, Dane enjoys pursuing fiber crafts (knitting and crocheting) and spending time with her husband and their cats, Linus and Lucy.
