Accepting new patients
“When I see patients, I hope they come away from the visit feeling like they've been heard and that we've had a chance to work together to come up with a plan that will help improve their health. ”

Katherine “Katie” Long, MD, grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. She moved to Maine to complete her Bachelor of Science in biology at Bates College and then went on to finish medical school back in Georgia at the Medical College of Georgia. She then moved to West Virginia to complete pediatric residency training at Charleston Area Medical Center. She fell in love with the Pacific Northwest on a cross-country road trip during medical school and decided to move to the area. She met her husband in Portland, and they now have three children they’re raising here in Oregon.
Growing up, Dr. Long was always interested in life sciences and medicine. She enjoyed working with children, so pediatrics was the logical choice of medical pursuit. She went to medical school with the specific goal of becoming a pediatrician and considers herself a true general pediatrician. She enjoys all aspects of pediatric care- from new parent worries to teen angst and everything in between.
Dr. Long believes that one of the essential things in patient care is the ability to listen to patients and parents. She is often described as calm and a good listener. She does her best to help families develop practical approaches to the challenges of raising healthy kids, with the understanding that there is not one solution that fits everyone. She enjoys making a difference for families, such as helping to solve sleep issues with an infant or toddler and then hearing at their next visit that they improved sleep and lowered stress after implementing discussed solutions.
Besides serving patients, Dr. Long enjoys spending time outdoors, crocheting, sewing, woodworking, and gardening. Her family has visited many national parks and looks forward to seeing more every year.
