Language(s) - English
Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Canada, Kevin Ewanchyna, MD, had early exposure to healthcare and was deeply influenced by his family, with a pharmacist father and a mother who served as a medical office manager. Before coming to Oregon, he was a Medical Officer for the Canadian Department of Defense, providing care to the Canadian and British Army and their dependents. Having lived in Corvallis for over 25 years, he deeply values the community and holds his family in the highest regard, considering it the most important aspect of his life.
As a “science geek” with strong communication skills, he found the practice of medicine fit his interests and personality very well. His interest in family medicine came from the exemplary practice of his family doctor, with whom his mother worked. He recalls, “Seeing the breadth of her practice that could forge strong relationships with people really appealed to me.” Board Certified in Family Medicine in the United States and Canada, Dr. Ewanchyna has dedicated his career to trauma-informed approaches, emphasizing patient-centered care. His leadership roles showcase his commitment to advocacy for healthcare and physicians, including serving as President of the Oregon Medical Association from 2019 to 2021.
In his patient care philosophy, Dr. Ewanchyna strongly emphasizes the importance of listening first, stating, “I strive to make each patient encounter unique to that person.” He creates a personalized approach to healthcare, incorporating health literacy and effective communication. He is driven by the belief that every patient encounter should be respectful and collaborative and improve health outcomes.
In his free time, Dr. Ewanchyna leads a vibrant life filled with diverse interests, including good food (his wife is a chef, and they are both “foodies”), reading, music, and live theater. An avid runner, he is often at Peavey Arboretum on the trails taking in nature, and has participated in various trail runs and trail ultramarathons over the years.
