Sara Caulum, LPC, was raised in rural Southwest Louisiana and enjoyed being exposed to diverse populations of people, a rich culture of community, music, and food. She also loved wandering through rural fields and pine forests, observing animals, insects, and flora.
Her natural inclination to observe and her intense curiosity about her environment led her to a career in healthcare, specifically behavioral health. As Sara puts it, “Studying psychology was motivated by a desire to understand the parts of us that are not so apparent and to acquire the skills to invite others to understand those parts independently.”
In her practice, Sara strongly emphasizes the importance of balance. She is committed to helping her patients, whether they are seeking counseling for preventive care, maintaining wellness, or addressing mental, emotional, or physical concerns.
Her hope for all her patients is that they walk away from counseling with more acceptance and expertise about themselves. She believes this self-awareness helps them appreciate the benefits counseling offers and aims to make the experience pleasant and helpful so that her clients feel confident in gaining a refined sense of agency.
Sara’s diverse interests outside of work reflect her zest for life and learning. Her interests in conservation practices, animal care, and learning new skills all stem from a strong desire to help repair and bring balance back to environments in need. In addition to her formal education, she is a Master Cattleman, Certified Sailor, Certified Diver, amateur gardener, fresh and saltwater aquarist, triathlete, and runner. Each of these pursuits includes many subsets of interests she and her husband enjoy together. Above all, Sara is most proud of her role as a mother to her now young adult son and her family’s three dogs.
